How to convince kids to healthy foods?

I heard it many times - the healthiest stuff is not the most delicious one. Unfortunately in many cases it’s true. Let’s take cod-liver oil (full of Omega3 and health) - most people I know hates it. But not me. Actually I LOVE it. That’s right. But how is it possible?

My best guess is I have to thank my parents for their methods. And share those methods to all of you.

As a small boy I was not very keen to eat everything. But I was totally crazy about fish - not eating them, but watching them in aquarium, looking at photos and all such things.

“Could someone make Luke quiet? Give him some fish book.”

So, as I was so great fish-fan (and didn’t knew that whales are NOT just biiiig fishes) my parents just told me that cod-liver oil is a “whale juice”. Crazy as it may sound, it worked.

BUT - there’s a catch - since my father was a sailor he got this small trick (to small to be a recipe) for it - DON’T drink it as it is (it IS awful then) but:

take a small piece of bread (wholemeal or a granary bread of course), put few drops of fish oil on it, add a bit of salt and eat.

Believe me it’s VERY different than raw fish oil. To be honest - raw butter is not good to eat as well - but with bread…

This two tips made me like fish oil till this day. And I managed to convince my wife to it (she hated fish oil before).

Thanks to the “fish-stuff” I still like kidneys and livers (“It’s a whale meat”). Well there you go.

If your kids totally love something - try to connect healthy food with it - may it be secret food of their favorite superhero (”it’s why he is so strong”) or maybe favorite food of specific group od people (like fireman’s most favorite dish).

I guarantee - having good memories about healthy food from your youth is a great thing :)

Thanks Mom!
